Having a videographer on a retainer should be looked at as an investment. You’ll want to make the most of the time you have. We’ve put together a list of videos every business will benefit from having on a monthly retainer with a videographer. With these ideas, you’ll get the best return on your investment.
Instructional Videos to "Turn on the lights"
Instructional, or process videos, don’t have to be the most heavily produced videos. These aren’t the type of videos you’ll be posting on social media. The main function of these videos is to help get prospects and leads through your sales process. It helps to know where people might get hung on along the way. For example, you might have a form or application that is required before people get started with you. A video that addresses the common questions people have with that form will put them at ease and make them more likely to complete the form.
Other uses for instructional videos might be in a welcome email that people will see when they subscribe to your email list. Or you might provide a high ticket that requires a unique process. A video can help people understand that process and make it easier for them to buy from you.
You don’t have to know what process videos you need right away. But working with a videographer on a retainer will give you the opportunity to produce them as you see fit. As you get more traffic to your socials and website, you might start to notice a point where people are falling off and not completing your process. Once you start to see this, you can address them with a video. When you have a videographer on a retainer you know you can take care of this with your next “content day”.
Videos for Stories
There are some people who only watch stories on social media. So, let’s give them something to watch. And while we’re at it, let’s put a strong call-to-action in there. The great thing about stories on Instagram and Facebook is you can add a clickable link to them. So every month you should have a few 15-sec vertical videos just for your stories.
When you have a videographer on a retainer you can create new ones each month. You might be saying the same thing each time, just with a different look. The great thing about being on a retainer is you get to learn what works and try new things. So, if your calls-to-action are getting results, switch it up a little.
I recommend using these same stories on a weekly basis. You might have these set for certain days of the week. For example, you might have a story that encourages people to subscribe to your email list and post that one every Monday.
Vertical Videos
Working with a videographer on a retainer will give you plenty of content for vertical videos. These are your Reels and Tik Toks. And don’t forget about YouTube shorts. These same videos can be posted to YouTube to grow your channel.
If you have a videographer on a retainer, you’ll want to make sure they can edit your vertical videos properly. They should fit the entire screen on your phone when held vertically. Having those large black empty spaces is unattractive and lazy.
Your retainer package should include multiple vertical videos. Having at least 2 per week is a good start. At PT Media, we always offer at least 8 of these per month as part of our retainer packages.
If you struggle with the actual content for these, just make a list of 8 points you want to get across to your audience. From there just be prepared to talk about each of them for up to a minute.
One benefit to working with a videographer on a retainer is that you can use the same topics every month, and just change the way the content is filmed.
YouTube Videos on Retainer
While social media is fun and you can get immediate engagement, YouTube is still king when it comes to video marketing. We, at PT Media, believe that every video retainer package should include YouTube content. By that we mean, as a business, you should want a new video uploaded to YouTube each month.
Here’s why:
- YouTube content lives on forever. There’s a good chance that you’ve recently watched a video on YouTube that was produced several years ago. That doesn’t happen with social media. People aren’t combing your Instagram feed for videos you produced 2 years ago.
- YouTube is owned by Google. When people search for a particular topic, and you have a video on that topic, you have a chance to show up in the search results.
- YouTube provides better analytics. They’re much more robust that any social media platform.
The point here, take advantage of having a videographer on a retainer. Research your topics and create the content.
The content you produce for YouTube can also be repurposed for social media.
Find the right videographer to put on a retainer
With these ideas, you just have to find a videographer that you’ll work well with. You’ll want make sure this person or company can edit appropriately and see if they offer social media management, which will help take a lot of work off of your hands as a business owner. At PT Media we offer all of this.
